Environmental Policy

As it should be with any company professionally operating vehicles, we have taken an immense amount of care in ensuring that we meet and exceed all environmental standards set out. We have invested heavily in many aspects of our business operations to set a standard for tour operators, and to protect the landscapes we covet so highly. We have an ongoing vehicle purchase program ensuring coaches are replaced every 4 to 5 years at the latest. Our current fleet of vehicles, purchased in 2017/8 at a cost of well over half a million pounds, have Euro 6 Emission Standards and are constantly maintained to ensure fuel efficiency throughout their lifespan earning EcoStars recognition. Fitted with real-time telematics to provide constructive feedback to our drivers, who are also offered mentorship and training to improve and hone their key skills.

Waste generated by guests on tour is always removed and recycled - passing into our hostel network’s recycling scheme at the end of the tour.

In our hostels and our offices, we look to minimise all waste and look to recycle wherever possible. We strive to make the most efficient use of water and minimise our energy consumption.

Just recently, MacBackpackers joined the Green Tourism scheme and immediately gained the Bronze award. MacBackpackers are committed to sustainable tourism and minimising our impact on the environment. We strive for continuous improvement in this area and review our policies regularly.

MacBackpackers currently owns 100 hectares of woodland in the heart of the Scottish Highlands which is in the process of being re-planted with 100% indigenous Scottish species, helping us minimise our carbon footprint. We are 90% there!

Take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints.
